Aloha Carol -
Love your pictures – Love horses! However I have just read an article in the Audubon Magazine about how the wild horses are destroying the bird habitat… can you help me understand what to believe????
Would appreciate you advice.
Dear Arine,
Thanks for your kind words on my work. I happen to love birds as well as horses, and the truth is that wild horses are not destroying their habitat. The author of the article, Ted Williams, is a long time wild horse hater, and seeks to blame any degradation of habitat on wild horses. This is preposterous given the fact that there are about 8 million cattle and sheep grazing public lands, and probably less than 20,000 wild horses – and yet somehow wild horses are a more convenient scapegoat. I frequently visit wild horse areas in Wyoming that are home to Sage Grouse, and the horses are not destroying sage grouse habitat, but live in harmony with them. If you want more facts about wild horses and the use of our public lands, the very best site to get information is http://www.wildhorsepreservation.com
Thanks for writing!
Carol
