Wild Stallion Dollar Has a Surprise

Carol WalkerWild Horse Tales

While I was visiting Salt Wells Creek in Wyoming in September, I spotted through my binoculars a large wild horse family and a familiar dappled grey stallion – it was Dollar! Dollar is the only dappled grey curly stallion in the herd, and he has likely the largest family – 16 horses including him, mares and youngsters.

Not all of the horses in Dollar’s family are curlies. But the youngsters are.

As I was walking near the family I heard “baaa baaa” there was a lone sheep nearby looking at Dollar’s family.

Most of Dollar’s family looked up, surprised, and Dollar himself was on high alert. This ewe must have been left behind when the rancher took his flock, and she was looking for some company.

The mares were not too concerned and went back to grazing.

Dollar kept an eye on her however, the every watchful stallion taking care of his family.
