Springtime for the Horses in Portugal

Carol WalkerFeatured Artwork

In late April I traveled to one of my favorite destinations to photograph horses, Portugal, home of some of the most stunning horses in the world. Spring is a wonderful time to go because everything is green, there are flowers, and it is not usually very hot.

“Colorful Fairy Tale Horses”

These very colorful Lusitano mares and foals were curious about me on a quiet and foggy morning in their pasture.

“Two Black Stallions Meet”

These two black stallions, and Arabian on the left and a Lusitano on the right met for the very first time here and you can tell they are destined to be best friends.

“Sorraia Stallion Dances”

This beautiful grulla colored Sorraia stallion looks like he is dancing in the spring grass. Sorraias are the only native wild horses in Portugal, and they are very rare.

“Young Stallions Play at Dawn”

These young Lusitano stallions are a rowdy bunch, and as they run are silhouetted by the sun at dawn.
